Fee paying PGCE with QTS – X360 – part time

New for this year! This innovative course addresses the needs of candidates who must maintain their income while pursuing a career in primary education. When salaried routes or apprenticeships aren't feasible, our part-time option offers a balanced solution. Trainees work two days per week in their current role and engage in teacher training for the other three days, with an extended training period to accommodate part-time study. This programme is particularly advantageous for Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) already working in schools. It allows these invaluable team members to continue their essential work while gradually transitioning into qualified teaching roles. Key benefits include maintaining financial stability, gaining practical experience alongside theoretical learning, enabling seamless progression for current school staff, and providing a flexible path to qualified teacher status.

SEND enhanced PGCE with QTS J828 – full time

Our SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) Enhanced Offer is tailored for trainees aspiring to teach in specialist settings. This comprehensive programme builds upon our standard course, providing an enriched learning experience for those committed to supporting diverse educational needs. In addition to the core curriculum, participants will benefit from seven specialized SEND training sessions. These sessions, led by expert practitioners from the renowned Ridgeway School in Farnham, delve into crucial aspects of special education. Topics covered include effective management of support staff, understanding and addressing specific learning difficulties, strategies for managing challenging behaviours, and tailored feedback techniques for SEND students. This enhanced training equips future educators with the specialised knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in SEND environments, ensuring they can provide high-quality, inclusive education to all learners.

Apprenticeship B989 – full time QTS only

The Teacher Apprenticeship was launched in September 2018 and this gives schools an opportunity to use apprenticeship funding (the apprenticeship levy) for training.  Apprentice teachers will have to meet the same statutory requirements for entry as all other ITT programmes and will be assessed against the Teachers’ Standards through the Teach SouthEast curriculum.

Being an Apprentice (similarly to a Salaried trainee) means that you are employed by your placement school and receive a salary (Unqualified Teacher Scale point 1) whilst working towards gaining QTS. This route is available is competitive and subject to school availability. It is often most suitable for a trainee with significant school-based relevant experience and existing relationships with a school.

On successful completion of the course, apprentices will also complete an end-point assessment (EPA) after the summer to consolidate learning from initial teacher training.

Fees for the programme
QTS only £7,200 (covered by the school levy)

Salaried route QTS R408 QTS only

The Salaried trainee route offers a unique opportunity for aspiring teachers to earn while they learn. As a Salaried trainee, you'll be employed directly by your placement school, receiving a salary at the Unqualified Teacher Scale point 1 while working towards Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). This pathway is designed to balance practical teaching experience with professional development.

While Salaried trainees typically focus on achieving QTS due to their increased classroom responsibilities, those particularly interested can opt to pursue a PGCE alongside their training. However, this additional qualification is not a standard component of the Salaried route.

It's important to note that this route is highly competitive and dependent on school availability. Ideal candidates are often those with existing relationships with schools or significant relevant experience in education. This is because Salaried trainees are expected to take on substantial teaching responsibilities from the outset, including leading classes independently.

Fees for the programme
QTS only £7,200 (fee payable by placement school and/or salaried trainee as dependent on circumstances).

Our QTS-only programme offers a streamlined path to Qualified Teacher Status, designed for those seeking a practical, school-centered approach to teacher training. It also includes targeted academic study blocks that directly support and enhance your classroom practice. This route is particularly appealing to candidates already working in schools who wish to formalise their teaching qualifications. It's ideal for those with practical experience looking to transition into qualified teaching roles efficiently.
